To all the food I haven’t eaten before…
Okay, so New Year and my first entry for 2009 is on….March 2nd???
Wow, do I ever suck. Still, I’ll not give you half-hearted excuses but I will say this: it’s time to remedy the situation and get on with the get-down. I’ve got my trusty camera, a healthy appetite, and am armed with a list.
Closer towards the beginning of the year I asked my favorite local food critics/bloggers to come up with a list of places/things I should eat before I moved to Canada. Atlanta really is a great town of restaurants, both upscale and down-home (and out on Buford Highway, down home tends more to mean faraway Asia or South and Central America). Besha Rodell and Cliff Bostock of Creative Loafing repute honored me with their choices here.
Jennifer Zyman, also a food critic for the Loaf, has a fantastic site called The Blissful Glutton (the link of which you can find off to the side on this here blog), sent me an email back, which I will now print in its entirety:
Okay, here goes:
- Omakase at sushi house hayakawa–the chirashi bowl is a great alternative if you don’t want the full on tasting menu experience.
- A fried peach pie from the Chick-fil-a dwarf house in College Park.
- Korean BBQ at Honey Pig–they have an enormous mushroom assortment instead of the beef.
- I would say the ramen at Yakitor
- Fried chicken at Busy Bee cafe
- i Jinbei but it has pork and a pork-based broth. Worth mentioning though since you say you’ll eat chorizo.
- Cheese and bean gorditas at Gordita’s.
- Anything from Lotta-Frutta–esp. their paletas and veggie cups.
- The mixed meze platter at Agora Cafe.
- Hen of the woods mushrooms over polenta and fried shrimp at Holeman & Finch Public House
That should get you started…let me think on it some more.
As you can see, I have a lot of eating to do. So my plan is this: to get as much off these lists as I can with the next 23 days. I will post pics and reviews of what I get to.
Hopefully you guys will stick around for the ride because frankly, I think it’s going to be good. Of course, it will probably also mean a lot more cardio to work off the calories, but I trust these folks. It’s totally gonna be worth it. And even better: when the LSC comes down next week, he can help me!!
